McGrath, Alaska - Cap'n Snow Center & Iditarod

McGrath is located 221 miles northwest of Anchorage and 269 miles southwest of Fairbanks.  The community functions as a transportation, communication and supply center for Interior Alaska. It is adjacent to the Kuskokwim River, directly south of its confluence with the Takotna River.

This camera is located at the Cap'n Snow Center, which is also the City Hall.  The Kuskokwim River is on the left side of the image and the camera is pointed upriver.  The road in the center of the image, parallel to the river, is Takotna Avenue.  The open area in the middle is the parking lot for the Cap'n Snow Center.  This is also where the Iditarod Mushers will enter McGrath.  The race starts at the beginning of March in Anchorage and the mushers will usually arrive in McGrath a few days later.
